Carton Data - Why is this important?

Carton Data - Why is this important?

Overview

When sending new products into one of our Warehouse facilities, in addition to the product information, it is also really important that we obtain and hold accurate carton data within our WMS (warehouse management system)

Why do we require Carton Data?

To provide accurate shipping costs, efficient order processing, and a smooth fulfilment experience, we require up-to-date carton data for all products stored in our warehouse.

Carton data includes details such as carton dimensions, weight, and units per carton.

How does Carton Data benefit you?

  1. Accurate Shipping Costs
Having carton data allows us to obtain precise courier quotes and select the most cost-effective shipping method. This helps prevent unexpected surcharges caused by re-weighing or dimensional weight adjustments applied by carriers.
  1. Faster Order Processing
When carton data is available in advance, orders can be planned and processed more efficiently. This reduces handling time, avoids delays caused by manual measuring, and supports faster dispatch—particularly during peak periods.#
  1. Transparent and Accurate Billing
Carton data ensures that picking, packing, storage, and shipping charges are calculated correctly and in line with the agreed rate card. This reduces the likelihood of billing discrepancies or disputes.
  1. Better Storage and Space Management
Accurate carton dimensions help us allocate the correct storage locations for your stock, optimise warehouse space, and ensure storage charges are applied fairly.
  1. Courier, Marketplace and Customs Compliance
Many couriers, marketplaces, and customs authorities require accurate carton dimensions and weights before accepting or clearing shipments. Providing this data helps prevent shipment holds, delays, or additional charges.
  1. Supporting your Growth!
As your order volumes increase or you expand into new sales channels or regions, carton data enables scalable and automated fulfilment without operational friction.

What happens if carton data is missing, or inaccurate?

If carton data is missing or incorrect, additional handling may be required to manually measure and weigh stock. This can result in:

  1. Delays in providing shipping quotes
  1. Longer dispatch times
  1. Additional handling or adjustment charges
